Ab-solutes: stratum (2023)
Single-channel 3D animation and photographic series featuring macro images of skin samples from marine mammals used by researchers to study mercury contamination in the water systems and food chains of the Canadian Arctic.
The project examines the ways in which naturally-occurring chemical elements such as mercury contained within land and soil can be released in extremely toxic forms (i.e. methyl-mercury), and subsequently mobilized and circulated within water systems as the result of human interventions such as flooding for hydroelectric power production.
Produced in collaboration with the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (Aquatic Contaminants Research Division) and support from the Ontario Arts Council.
